From Indifference to Action through Bystander Intervention
A 5D-based training program for responding to antisemitic harassment
USA · North America · Right To Be & T’ruah
Project description
From Indifference to Action through Bystander Intervention is a digital training program designed to build people’s capacity to respond to violence and discrimination through the bystander intervention model. The program is based on the “5D” methodology (Direct, Distract, Delay, Delegate, Document) and is designed to be easily replicated and adapted across different contexts. It operates at the level of social response by empowering individuals as active bystanders to violence, equipping them with practical and safe ways to intervene instead of remaining passive. As part of the cooperation with Erase Indifference, Right to Be and T’ruah developed and scaled a Bystander Intervention to Stop Antisemitic Harassment training program, using Right to Be’s evidence-based 5D methodology to equip bystanders with practical tools to safely respond to antisemitic incidents and help build safer public spaces.
Since 2002, Right To Be has delivered over 50 Bystander Intervention to Stop Antisemitic Harassment trainings reaching thousands of participants. As part of the EIC 2024 grant, the organization reached over 6,000 participants through 25 trainings.
