Combatting Advertiser Indifference to Jew-Hatred with Brand Safety
Israel · Asia · CyberWell
Project description
First of its kind research initiative that addresses the monetization of antisemitism on YouTube and promotes stronger responses to hateful content. Based on an analysis of over 300 user-reported videos in English and Arabic, the project highlights how advertising revenue can incentivize the production of harmful content and identifies significant gaps in platform enforcement. By raising awareness of antisemitic narratives and engaging Trust & Safety teams, the initiative aims to strengthen moderation practices and improve platform accountability. The findings were published in the report “Monetized Antisemitism on YouTube”, which was later cited during the Australian Royal Commission on Antisemitism and Social Cohesion during cross-examination of YouTube.
Increased removal rate of monetized antisemitic content by 15.4% in English and 21.5% in Arabic. In June 2026, CyberWell's research was referenced during Australia's Royal Commission into Antisemitism and Social Cohesion, where Nicholas Bender SC, representing the Australian Jewish community, relied on the findings while questioning YouTube's Senior Manager for Government Affairs and Public Policy about the platform's response to reports of antisemitic content. The research highlighted gaps in content moderation practices and contributed to discussions on platform accountability.
